What is Globalization?
If this photo looks to you like a world youth convention, you guessed almost right. It’s the group photo of a recent incoming class of the
Undergraduate College of Global Studies.
As a Global Studies (GLS) freshwo/man you will experience- no matter what your major- an enriching first-year curriculum, both social and academic. You will learn about the impact of globalization and explore what it means to be a global citizen.
What you can expect as a member of the GLS community:
You will get to know students that are both like you and different from you. Together, you will participate in the Quad’s Living Learning Center events; attend presentations and roundtables in the Center for Global Studies and Human Development located in the Quad; or help organize social events in the Quad. Whether you decide to reside on campus or commute, Eleanor Roosevelt Quad (ERQ) is home to the Undergraduate College of Global Studies (GLS).
What Can I Expect in GLS Courses?
With the help of the Global Studies team, you will:
- choose your GLS 101 (Fall) and GLS 102 (Spring) seminars
- learn decision-making skills to succeed at Stony Brook, a research university with hundreds of academic and social options
- meet Stony Brook faculty that researches the effects of globalization in medicine, linguistics, economics, fine arts, or the applied sciences
