It is essential to be as open-minded and independent as possible when you first enter college. This is a time where you will be able to explore your interests and truly find yourself. Do whatever your heart desires. Just because your friends may or not be interested in the same things that you are, don't let that stop you from doing what you love. No one will judge you in college. We are all unique individuals with the hopes of having successful futures one day. Never feel like you are alone and always express how you feel. Life is too short to not put yourself and take risks. Put yourself out there and make these the best four years of your life. No regrets.

Especially if you're an international student, everything here appears to be new at first, but that doesn't mean you can settle with something you are familiar and comfortable with. College is a place where you really have to go out and grab a chance with your own hands. If you look around you will find so many opportunities waiting for you. Try to make the best of your experience (and remember the next 4 years aren't free)!

Take initiative and put yourself out there. Join a club, an organization, hall council, a sport, or get a job on campus. Every opportunity you grasp will help you meet new people and get you more experienced. Remember to give college time; transitioning from high school to college is hard, but be patient. Say hi to someone because you never know if they could end up being your new best friend. Don't ever be afraid to ask questions. There are many people here who can help.

Don't be afraid to make friends. Everyone is in the same shoes as you are and they are all nervous. Just remember that making friends won't happen overnight. It might take you a few weeks or even a semester to make some really good friends. Remember to never give up. Even though you may be having a hard time adjusting to college, a lot of other freshman students are too. You are never alone!
