What are the Undergraduate Colleges (UGCs)?
As a freshman, you will be a member of a small community called an Undergraduate College (UGC), which will allow you to explore a broad academic theme beyond your major through a series of one-credit seminars, field trips and social events. Your Undergraduate College will provide you with the experience of a small college within a large research university.
The goal of this website is to introduce you to each of the six Undergraduate Colleges, so that you have a better understanding of their academic themes, curricula, and residential amenities. Each UGC is home to a diverse group of students from all majors and backgrounds. Each Undergraduate College will provide:
A strong support and academic advising network to help you settle in, set academic goals, select classes and succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
An exciting curriculum that includes two one-credit seminars, a first year reading assignment with an opportunity to meet the author, and a UGC-specific research project.
Opportunities for close interactions with faculty and staff.
- Leadership opportunities and ways to represent your UGC on intramural and club sport teams, during the Battle of the Undergraduate Colleges, and at campus events like Homecoming.
