What are the Undergraduate Colleges (UGCs)?

As a freshman, you will be a member of a small community called an Undergraduate College (UGC), which will allow you to explore a broad academic theme beyond your major through a series of one-credit seminars, field trips and social events. Your Undergraduate College will provide you with the experience of a small college within a large research university.

The goal of this website is to introduce you to each of the six Undergraduate Colleges, so that you have a better understanding of their academic themes, curricula, and residential amenities. Each UGC is home to a diverse group of students from all majors and backgrounds. Each Undergraduate College will provide:

  • A strong support and academic advising network to help you settle in, set academic goals, select classes and succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

  • An exciting curriculum that includes two one-credit seminars, a first year reading assignment with an opportunity to meet the author, and a UGC-specific research project.

  • Opportunities for close interactions with faculty and staff.

  • Leadership opportunities and ways to represent your UGC on intramural and club sport teams, during the Battle of the Undergraduate Colleges, and at campus events like Homecoming.
