Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Dean of the Undergraduate Colleges

Dr. Robbins is the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Dean of the Undergraduate Colleges at Stony Brook University.  Prior to that he was an Associate Professor and the Associate Dean at the University’s School of Social Welfare and chairperson of the Center for Health Promotion and Wellness. He served as the faculty advisor for the undergraduate Community Service Living Learning Center and the Leadership Development Living Learning Center.  Dr. Robbins was previously the Director of Social Work Services at Stony Brook University Hospital and former co-chair of their institutional ethics committee.  He has a faculty appointment in the Graduate Program in Public Health in the School of Medicine.  He is a past President and member of the Board of the Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care and winner of the Society’s 2011 Ida M. Cannon Award.  Dr. Robbins was an official NGO delegate to the United Nations representing the International Association of Schools of Social Work.  He was the social work representative to the American Public Health Association Board and a member of the Board of Directors of BiasHelp, Long Island. He has been appointed to the Leadership Council of the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence. Dr. Robbins was recently named a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine.  Dr. Robbins joined the Miracle Corners of the World Board of Directors in 2012.  Dr. Robbins’ areas of professional interest and research include social justice, gender, health, health care disparities, international public health, violence as a public health problem, violence between intimate partners and cultural competency. Dr. Robbins is a frequent speaker at local, national and international conferences.  He has authored many articles, just completed a text chapter, a book review and a new entry in the Social Work Encyclopedia.
