Marvin O’Neal is the Director of Introductory Laboratories in Undergraduate Biology. He has a B.S. in Biology from Wofford College, M.S. in Basic Health Science and Ph.D. in Physiology & Biophysics from Stony Brook University. While conducting graduate research in central control of breathing and CO2-chemosensitivity, he discovered his passion for teaching and has served as instructor in the School of Medicine, Department of Pharmacology, and Undergraduate Biology.

He was born and raised in Camden, South Carolina and fondly remembers the small-town community that offered him a rich diversity of experiences including music, theatre, dance, and athletics. He attended Georgia Tech as a mechanical engineering major before transferring to biology at Wofford College. After graduation, he enjoyed working as an EMT prior to finding home at Stony Brook University in 1997. Current interests reflect his adventurous spirit and include sailing, backpacking, general aviation, and travel. He lives in Patchogue with his wife and two sons.
