Residence Hall Director

Matthew West began his journey here at Stony Brook University as a Residence Hall Director in August of 2016. Of Caribbean-American, hales from Brooklyn, NY. Prior to Stony Brook, Matt attended The University at Buffalo, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (with a double minor in Education and Health & Wellness), as well as, a Master’s in Higher Education Administration. He is a PROUD alum of the Buffalo EOP program. During his time in Buffalo, Matt not only became a member of, but served as the president to clubs and organizations such as, Caribbean Students Association, Beta Sigma Kappa Afro-Latino Fraternity, Incorporated, and much more. If he was not in meetings, Matt spent much of his time working in the Buffalo Public Schools, working through the financial aid process; assisting with the college application process; and provided academic enrichment to many High School Students. Near his last two years, Matthew became the Resident Director for incoming class of 2019 EOP students in Buffalo, as well as, the academic intervention coordinator for students on academic warning (or probation) within EOP at UB. Through these many experiences, Matt saw a need to want to continue with similar work, and devote his next few years at Stony Brook to not only being a RHD, but also to utilize his other skills to make an everlasting impact on the Seawolves community!
